Today we finally got to go out on the town. What an incredible country and culture. Guangzhou is a fairly affluent part of the country. We visited a temple and a museum, all in about 140% humidity (it seemed like anyway). Standing downtown waiting for the bus we felt the stares of the locals. It finally occurred to us they weren't sizing up Jolene and I, but checking out Julan. Many stopped to ask her age or if she was a boy or girl. They would invariably say "Lucky Baby." What a humbling experience to think that Jolene and I get to be a part of this baby "winning the lottery" – that's how the Chinese people view babies being adopted by American couples. The best part of the day was that Julan was an absolute joy. Except for normal baby traumas (like diaper changes and naptime) she has had a smile waiting for us. I think she has finally decided she likes us.
